|
Recognition for Efforts on Behalf of California Hotel & Lodging Associati |
Carl Winston, Director of the Hospitality & Tourism Management Program at San Diego State University was awarded a Most Valuable Volunteer Award by the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) during the AH&LA Stars of the Industry Breakfast held this morning at The Brown Palace Hotel in Denver, Colorado. The award was given to Winston for his outstanding and tireless work on behalf of the California Hotel & Lodging Association (CH&LA).
Winston has long been involved with CH&LA and a key contributor in relation to CH&LA's mission to provide legislative advocacy on behalf of California's lodging industry. Winston has been actively involved in CH&LA's legislative and governmental affairs through his participation on the Legislative Awareness Summit Planning Committee that has resulted in the premier legislative industry event presented by a coalition of industry representatives, including the California Association of Bed & Breakfast Inns and the Asian American Hotel Owners Association. In addition, Winston has chaired the Governmental & Legal Affairs Committee for CH&LA for the past two years and has been on the CH&LA Board of Directors since 2001.
Winston was also instrumental in arranging for the hosting of the AH&LA Educational Institute's Lodging Management Summer Institute this year in California at San Diego State University, furthering the education of lodging management instructors through this program that includes certification as a Certified Hospitality Instructor (CHI) for participants.
"Carl Winston's experience in the lodging industry and his passion for legislative issues is invaluable to the California Hotel & Lodging Association. His guidance of the educational program at SDSU is truly a benefit to the lodging industry," said James O. Abrams, President & CEO of CH&LA. "This honor is our opportunity to both recognize and thank our greatest asset, our volunteers."
Launched in 1998, this annual award is presented to one person in each state who has greatly contributed to their hospitality programs and initiatives. Winners receive a commemorative silver medallion.
The California Hotel & Lodging Association (CH&LA) is the largest state lodging industry trade association in the country. Its 1,600 members, which comprise close to 175,000 guest rooms, consist of hotels, motels, bed and breakfast inns, guest ranches, resorts, spas, condominium rentals, timeshares, and vacation home rentals located throughout California. CH&LA's mission is to be the indispensable resource for communicating and protecting the rights and interests of the California lodging industry, for providing educational training and value programs for all segments of the industry, and for supporting strategic alliances to promote the value of California tourism and travel. Sacramento-based CH&LA has been representing California's lodging industry for more than a century. CH&LA is on the web at www.calodging.com.
